Bobby Bobtail and the Cloud Dragon
Bobby thought that he must surely be the luckiest cat in the whole world! Bobby Bobtail lived on a farm, which included his most favorite spot of all, his meadow!
Everyday Bobby went on a new adventure with his very own red-headed boy named Joshua. Josh, as he was called, was a fun loving boy that always seemed to get carried away with his imagination. He often laid in the meadow, staring up at the sky and making up stories about the clouds.
They asked Bobby and Joshua if they wanted to go hunting for dragons with them and they said “Sure we would, but first we have to run and tell Mom we are going so she won’t worry.”
Off they ran and the next thing you knew they were swooped up by the very dragon the cat and mouse were looking for! Josh yelled to the cat “Watch out! It’s the dragon!” But it was too late! Josh and Bobby were already up in the air and flying off with the dragon!
Bobby looked down and saw lots of puffy clouds. How ironic that the day had started with them making up stories about clouds and now they were flying through the clouds!
They could see so many meadows and climbing trees. They spotted other cats looking up fearfully at the sight of them flying overhead. It was such an adventure they almost forgot their fear until it started getting darker and darker until they realized they were flying through a storm cloud! Up, up they went, through rain and hail until they suddenly broke big through to a cave, with scorch marks on the walls.
“This must be where the dragon lives” thought Josh. I must protect Bobby from the fire-breathing dragon. But was this a mean dragon? Maybe not! Because, scattered around the dragon’s cave were shafts of beautiful sunlight, like gold surrounding them.
Then they understood they had reached a crossroads; should they trust that the dragon was a good dragon, or should they be afraid?
They decided the dragon was a good dragon because there were lots of cat toys all over the place. Josh batted a catnip mouse to Bobby who batted the toy back. But oh, no! He batted it into a tiny little cave where he could just touch it with the tip of his paw. The dragon looked sad because it was his favorite toy.
Bobby devised a plan in his head. “Do not worry. I will use my tail to pull the mouse toy out of the little cave”! Bobby put his tail into the cave and wrapped his tail around what he thought was the toy. But when he pulled his tail out they all saw that it wasn’t a toy at all, but a gigantic cob web.
“Silly, me”, said Bobby, “I have a bobtail and can not reach the catnip mousie! Oh, whatever will we do, Josh?” Josh scratched his head, and then a wry smile swept across his face. I’ve got it”, said Josh. Josh turned to the dragon and said “I bet one of your long pointy claws will fit!” So the dragon reached in side and out popped the toy!
As Josh watched the dragon and Bobby bat the toys back and forth to each other he began to wonder “When are we going to go home? I am hungry and missing my beans.” So he got his nerve up and asked the dragon “We have to go home because it’s dinner time. Would you like to come with us?”
The dragon’s face lit up with delight as he gently carried Josh and Bobby back to their home. Josh’s mother opened the door, and when she saw the dragon, she shouted with joy because the she visited this exact same dragon when she was a little girl and she helped the dragon to learn wonderful games he could play with little red-headed boys and bobtail cats.
She smiled and said “Please come in and have dinner with us and tell me all you have done since I saw you last, Sir Gilroy!” And they had a wonderful barbecue! Sir Gilroy told them a few stories and they all laughed and had the most wonderful time!
Just as it was growing dark, Sir Gilroy got up and said “I’ve enjoyed meeting you both, Bobby and Josh! Our wonderful adventure today was so much fun! Unfortunately, it is time for me to return to my clouds. I have to rest so I will be ready when the next child looks up and recognizes the dragon in the clouds!” As quickly as Sir Gilroy appeared to them earlier, he disappeared into the sky.

Bobby and Josh got ready for bed. Today was a very good day! They had met several interesting characters and made a new friend. As they fell off to sleep they both were already imagining where their next adventure would lead them!
