Chrissy and the Stocking

with 33 comments

Chrissy was so excited! As the Chief Cat in Charge of Stocking Stuffers for Santa’s Workshop, she had so much work to do! Santa’s Official Pre-Christmas Season would begin in only one week! Even though Chrissy’s main responsibility was Stocking Stuffer Toys Quality Control, she still had two Stocking Stuffer Staffers yet to be appointed!

Chrissy thought she’d better make the most of her final week of leisure ahead. She decided to settle in for a long winter’s nap in her favorite Condo.

No sooner had Chrissy stretched into a most comfy position when she heard a tiny knock at her door. “Who’s there, please?”, asked Chrissy.

“Chrissy, it’s me. It’s Chris Mouse. Can we talk?”

“Sure,” Chrissy said in a friendly voice.

Chrissy acted as if she was brave, but inside she was a little scared. Chrissy didn’t like being too close to strangers. The cats at the shelter mostly sympathized with her. After all, every kitty in there had a sad story to tell, but most kitties got over their fear very quickly. Chrissy was the only one who still shook at the sight of strangers. Everyone knew that was the reason she was having so much trouble finding a Forever Home.

Chrissy’s friends tolerated her scairty cat ways. But if they knew she was scairt even of a little mouse, they’d all laugh at her behind their paws.

Chrissy let Chris Mouse in, but scooted back from him as far as she could. “What do you want?” she asked nervously.

“I’ve come to help you,” he said. “I know you need two more Stocking Stuffers, and I am perfect for the job!”

Little did Chrissy know that Chris also had a secret mission. He was working for Mrs Claws! Mrs Claws wanted to help Chrissy get over her shyness, and she thought that Chris Mouse could help.

Chrissy was a little unsure about having a mouse work for her. She twitched her whiskers and asked Chris Mouse “May I see your resume, please?”

Now it’s Chris Mouse’s turn to have twitchy whiskers! Mrs. Claws did not mention anything about needing to bring a resume along.

In what seems to be an eternity, there came another knock on the door.

“Who is it this time?” Chrissy wondered. She carefully crept to the door and peeked through the peephole. She could not believe her eyes! It was the real Mrs. Claws! Chrissy had always wanted to meet Mrs. Claws, but this was not a time for socializing, because there was important business to attend to. Chrissy flung open the door, while little Chris Mouse waited hopefully behind her.

Chrissy said to Mrs. Claws “Hello, Mrs Claws. What can I do for you? I’m very happy to meet you.”

Mrs Claws came in and looked at Chris Mouse. She said “I see you and Chris Mouse are talking. I hope that you can see that he would be purrfect for a stocking stuffer job! He may be tiny, but he has a lot of talent!” She winked at Chris Mouse and he relaxed a little.

Chrissy, knees shaking from nerves, said “Mrs Claws, if you recommend Chris Mouse so highly, I will hire him!”

Chrissy thought how excited she was about finally meeting Mrs. Claws and having a new friend to help with all the stocking stuffing.

Chrissy turned to Chris Mouse and said “How is this itty, bitty mouse going to be able to help me? I have to admit, he is very brave for coming to meet me, a cat, but he’s so tiny! I guess I just need to give him a chance.”

Chrissy turned to Chris Mouse and as she was about to tell him about her plans for the stocking stuffing there was another knock at the door.

Chrissy wondered who on earth it could be, and she was getting a tiny bit worried. Her little room was filling up fast and while she was thrilled to meet Mrs. Claws and was becoming used to Chris Mouse, she was feeling a little anxious. What if she had an anxiety attack? An anxiety attack might make her furs stand on end and then everyone would know her secret!

“Her secret… what could that be?” wondered Chris Mouse.

As Chris Mouse wondered ,Chrissy cautiously opened the door.

“HI!!!! I hear you heed some help so here I am!!!!!! What do I need to do? Where do we start!!!! My name is Zoom Zoom!!!!!!! What’s your name? Oh, Boy!! Oh, Boy!!!

Chris Mouse giggled at this new, very boisterous cat!

Chrissy stepped back, startled by the young cat’s enthusiasm. “Oh my”, she said. “Do you think you could stand still for just a few minutes? You’re making me dizzy.”

“Sorry”, said Zoom Zoom, “but I need to be doing things or I get bored. There’s just one thing. Before I help you, I have to take you somewhere and show you something.”

“Oh, I don’t know” said Chrissy.

“Please, it is important” said Zoom Zoom.

“‘Well, alright” said Chrissy doubtfully, as she and Chris Mouse followed Zoom Zoom. She followed him through the door and stopped in amazement as she saw many, many furries waiting outside! There were mousies and kitties and little doggies, because big doggies would only frighten her more.

Zoom Zoom smiled at Chrissy and told her “We all want to be your friends, Chrissy! We know you are shy, but we wanted to show you how great it is to make friends. AND we all want to help with the stockings!”

Chrissy was amazed, and more than just a little nervous. She was shaking a bit, until she felt a soft touch on her paw. It was Chris Mouse, and he said “It’s OK, Chrissy. You are more charming and charismatic than you realize.” He gave her a little wink. “Give them jobs. They want to help.”

Chrissy glanced back at her room. Too small, she thought. “We’ll have to find some place for all of us,” she said to the crowd with a sheepish blush. Does anyone have any ideas of where we can all work?”

Mrs. Claws spoke up. “Chrissy, why don’t we take all the stockings, the stocking stuffings and all the Stocking Stuffers over to the Reindeer’s Barn. That should be plenty of room for us all!”

Chrissy agreed that would be a good idea. Suddenly there was another knock at the door!

“Oh, Heavens! Who could it be this time” thought Chrissy. Summing up all her courage she opened the door. There before her kitty eyes stood Santa Claws and all the Reindeer!

“Chrissy” Rudolph said, “Please follow us.”

So Chrissy and all the others had started to follow Rudolph and Santa Claws when suddenly all of the other Reindeer objected to the plan!

Blitzen stepped to the front and said “Chrissy, we like you too, but we need room in the barn because we’re in training for the Christmas run. Maybe we can work something out that will help us both. These summer 3 a day workouts leave us cramped. Maybe if you and your kitty pals could provide massage services we could make some room in our barn so that you can work to stuff the stockings.”

Chrissy thought about this and said “I think we could do that. The kitties and the mousies can make biscuits on your backs and legs with our soft paws and help your sore muscles.”

Donner let out an “Ahhhhh” at the thought of his sore muscles being massaged by all the kitties. “That sounds wonderful!” he said.

But then Santa said “Don’t forget that ALL of those stockings need to get stuffed too! You have to budget your time well so that everyone will be happy and everything and everyone will be ready to go on Christmas Eve!”

Then he turned and winked at Chrissy and said “I know that you can get everyone to do what they need to do, Chrissy.”

Chrissy was really shaking by this time, and feeling so overwhelmed that she wanted to run and hide under something and never come out.

Santa winked another special Santa wink at her and suddenly, she was not afraid of all the new friends wanting to help with the stocking stuffing! She knew she could get it all done by managing all the kitties and mousies.

Her eyes brightened and she stood tall and confident. She was so excited that she called Zoom Zoom over to her side and said, “Zoom Zoom, let’s get those tables set up in the Reindeer Barn. Tell the others that all the supplies are in the storeroom behind my house. Let’s get busy! We’ve got a deadline to meet!”

Zoom Zoom was quite impressed at the change in Chrissy, and was noticing what a beautiful girl cat she was.

He leaned over to her and whispered, “We have a very special stocking to fill before Christmas Eve. There is a little girl in England who is very lonely, and needs to know that she is loved. We must go and fill this stocking with special toys for her and her family. She had a special kitty who went to the Rainbow Bridge and she misses her so much. Do you think you could personally see to filling that stocking, Chrissy? I know it would mean a great deal to that little girl.”

Chrissy was very touched. She knew what it meant to be sad and lonely. Chrissy smiled at Zoom Zoom and simply said “I will be delighted, Zoom Zoom. I will be sure it is something very special, indeed.”

Over the next few months there was so much work going on at the North Pole! The Elves were quite busy making their toys, the Reindeer were practicing their flying maneuvers. Chrissy and all the Stocking Stuffer Staffers busily and happily filled all the Stockings. They also gave the tired and weary Reindeer biscuit massages as often as they could.

Before they all knew it, it was Christmas Eve morning! A new snow had fallen the night before and everything at the North Pole looked quite enchanted!

Chrissy asked Chris Mouse to cover for her as she had to attend a Staff Manager’s meeting that morning with Santa Claws. There were so many last minute details to finalize. Everyone wanted to be absolutely certain that everything went off as planned!

Chrissy wasn’t gone very long at all, because all personnel had worked so very hard! Each and every worker took so much pride in their work! Chrissy returned to the Reindeer Barn to find that her Staff was actually going to finish ahead of schedule! She rewarded them all with some well deserved Elf Hot Chocolate and treats in front of a great cracking fire!

It was time! Santa Claws pulled his sleigh up to the Reindeer Barn loading dock and everyone helped to quickly load the sleigh. Much to everyone’s surprise, Chrissy pounced up into the seat next to Santa Claws!

Chrissy turned and said, “May I please have your attention please!”

Everyone stopped and turned towards Chrissy.

“I want to tell you all how much I appreciate the love and support you have all shown me during this wonderful Pre-Christmas Season! I also want to offer my special thanks to Chris Mouse, Mrs. Claws, Zoom Zoom, all of my Staff, the Reindeer and, of course, Santa! All of your great generosity of spirit has meant more to me than any of you will ever know. I finally realize that I have something special to offer.

I had a wonderful idea which I shared with Santa and I have his blessing. I am very happy to announce that tonight I will be accompanying Santa so that I can fill that little girl’s Christmas Stocking personally. I will be filling it with me! I will be that little girl’s kitty and I will love her and help her not feel so sad about losing her special friend who had to leave for the Bridge, and she will be my very special friend. I will finally have my Forever Home. I will miss you all!

Merry Christmas, everybuddy, and to all a good night!”

Everyone was cheering and clapping, and some tears were falling. Santa grinned from ear to ear and gave Chrissy his special Santa Wink. Then he grabbed the reins and yelled “Rudolph, you know the way!”

They all watched as Santa, Chrissy, the Reindeer and the fully loaded sleigh all slowly disappeared into the sky with a very jolly Santa laughing “Ho, Ho, Ho!”

  28. What a great story! My OTW really wants to go down to the shelter now. But the Big One keeps ‘forgetting’ to tell her when he’s going there for something until he’s come back.

Thank you for your birthday wishes! Actually last birthday was worse ’cause that was the day Whisper went to the Bridge which was why he got a post on my birthday. Still, she could have posted his remembrance AND my birthday! And that doesn’t explain why I didn’t get a party! House trashin’ party is being planned. We’ll announce it soon!
